it really is the best policy...

Proverbs 12:19 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for the moment

For sure, people lie for bad and evil reasons. They lie to hurt people or they lie to get themselves out of trouble and others in trouble. They lie to make themselves look better than they really are in reality. However, sometimes we lie just because it’s easier than telling the truth. For example lets say we have a girlfriend who is doing something she shouldn’t be doing, maybe it’s not horrible like committing adultery, but still it’s not good. Our gal comes to us and asks us our opinion about it, and instead of being truthful we say we agree. We lie. We lie because we are too much of a coward to look into the eyes of our friend and tell her the truth. That no matter what it is she is doing the path of sin is a slippery slope that will lead her no place good. Lying is the easy way out, or so it would seem to us. However, a couple of verses down in Proverbs 12 we read that a “lying tongue is an abomination to the Lord.” God doesn’t give us an out; He doesn’t allow us to lie when telling the truth is too hard. Nope, He expects us to be honest no matter the circumstance.
