Luke
1:38 And Mary said, “Behold I am the servant of the Lord let it be to me
according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
The
fact that an angel had just came to her would be enough to set someone on edge.
Then to be told your about to become pregnant miraculously in a way no one ever
has before or will ever again. To know that your friends and family will not
assume that your pregnancy came about the way it had but that instead you had
been unfaithful. Mary could have responded in many different ways. Her response
“…I am the servant of the Lord let it be to me according to your word.” Many people
assume that this makes Mary a “super” Christian. For sure she was godly, and something
within her made God find her worthy of such a task. However, her strength and
ability, if you will, to be able to say “I am the servant” was God. She knew
that He would accomplish what He willed. She knew that He was worthy of
whatever hardship this new path would bring her. She did it to be obedient to
God. Is this how we approach our tasks? Do we say “yes” because we know that He
will help us, guide us, because we know that He is worthy?
