peace, truth and refuge...

April 30, 2013
Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge

Every word is true. You can say that about nothing else except the Word of God. Nothing and no one can claim absolute truth but God and His word. That assuring truth is the place to which we run too. We can be assured that even though we morn we will laugh again, even though we work hard we have moments of perfect peace, even though we cry we also dance. We can KNOW that we will be delivered to Him one day. This knowledge and assurance should give the true Child of God such peace.

in the quiet...

April 29, 2013
Proverbs 29:11 A fool gives full vent to his spirit but a wise man quietly holds back

Sometimes it isn’t a great idea to speak your mind. Sometimes it isn’t a great idea to share your opinions; even if your intentions are pure. Sometimes it is acceptable to tell someone what you think. The wisdom comes in knowing the difference. Wisdom comes in being able to “quiet your spirit” when it really wants to shout out loud. This is one of my most favorite verses, and recently I have gone back to it repeatedly. I have found peace in applying this verse. There is much peace to be found in a quiet spirit.

more than listening...

April 22, 2013
Proverbs 22:17 Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise apply your heart to my knowledge

Choosing to listen is half the battle. We acknowledge that just maybe our way isn’t the best way. That’s hard for us because we think that what we want to happen in a given situation is the right thing, when sometimes its not. However, listening is only half the battle. The much more difficult part is actually applying what you hear to your life. Letting the words of wisdom effect your life is perhaps much harder. Sometimes it will require that we completely change direction. Sometimes those words of wisdom will require that we step out of our box of comfort. This is hard, and since it is difficult we sometimes just don’t do it. Maybe we need to make sure that we do more than just listen to words of wisdom, but that we listen with the intention of applying it to our lives.

what does your heart say...

April 21, 2013
Proverbs 21:2 Every way of man is right in his own eyes; but the Lord weighs the heart

Never be fooled. You may can fool some of the people some of the time. You can never fool God. He weights the intention of the heart. He KNOWS why we do what we do. Any action done with an unacceptable motive is sin, really. Sometimes we need to reevaluate our motives and change them!!

you gotta work for it...

April 20, 2013
Proverbs 20:4 The sluggard does not plow in the autumn; he will seek at harvest and have nothing

We all want things: we want material things, we want our relationships to work in certain ways, we want our jobs to be successful, we want our families to be close to each other, we want our body’s to look a certain way. We want a lot of things. Yet, sometimes we just expect those things to just happen. We just expect our children will be obedient without putting any time into disciplining them properly. We all have an image we want our bodies to look like, but we rarely are willing to put any effort into diet and exercise to see that it happens. We would much rather take a pill and continue to eat all we want. We all want the next best “whatever” out there but many times aren’t willing to work to get it. God's word tells us that whatever we want we have to work for. Many times we have to work a long time before we ever see any progress toward our goals. We can’t give up just because it becomes difficult. Anything worth having is worth working for!

what is good sense and what is just drama...

April 19, 2013
Proverbs 19:11 Good sense makes one slow to anger and it is his glory to overlook an offense

I’m emotional. I’m dramatic. I’m loud. If you know me none of these things are a surprise; neither are they really good things. Many times I’ve found myself in situations where my emotional anger controls my actions. This is not good; nothing should control the child of God but the Spirit of God. This is something I’m working on. It’s a work in progress…
